Iran-US deal collapses; US reinstates sanctions

President Donald Trump announced that the Iran‑U.S. memorandum of understanding has failed, triggering the United States to re‑impose sanctions on Iranian oil and to resume military actions against Iranian targets, including attacks on infrastructure in southern and northeastern Iran. The United States also threatened further strikes and warned Iranian officials of possible retaliation.

At the same time, Iran staged large public mourning ceremonies for its late leader, with millions gathering in cities such as Mashhad, Tehran and Karbala to pay tribute and affirm loyalty to the new head of the Revolution.

The dispute also affects navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, where Iranian vessels continue to transit despite the renewed U.S. naval blockade, highlighting the ongoing tension between the two countries.
