Iran warns of full‑scale defence if US breaches peace memorandum
Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf (also referred to as Qalibaf) announced that Tehran is prepared for “full‑scale defence” should the United States break the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in June 2026. He said Iran has “zero trust” in the US and that only parties prepared for war can negotiate. President Donald Trump declared the cease‑fire “over”, threatened a thousand missiles, and accused Iran of violating the agreement.
Iran’s army spokesman Mohammad Akraminia said the Iranian target list has been updated and that the country will respond to any US breach. Tehran has closed the Strait of Hormuz, accusing Washington of repeated violations, including new sanctions and airstrikes on Iranian sites. The US Central Command reported strikes on about 140 Iranian military sites, while Iran struck commercial vessels in the strait and launched missiles at bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and Jordan.
Both sides have exchanged accusations of non‑compliance. Iran maintains that it will honor the MoU only if the US does the same, and it has called for reciprocal action. Mediators from Qatar and Pakistan have been involved, but negotiations remain stalled as each side blames the other for ending the truce.
