Iran water officials warn rainfall increases may not end drought

Officials in Iran are warning that despite recent increases in precipitation, the country continues to face significant water challenges due to years of drought. In Tehran, the Deputy CEO of the Tehran Water and Wastewater Company noted a 10 percent increase in rainfall, but emphasized that this does not signal the end of the drought. He stated that recovering from six years of low rainfall will be a time-consuming process and urged citizens to manage consumption carefully.

In the Kurdistan region, the CEO of the Kurdistan Regional Water Company highlighted the complexities of managing dam reservoirs during periods of fluctuating weather. He noted that dams in the province are categorized by their capacity levels, with some exceeding 80 percent fullness. With autumn rainfall predicted to increase by 20 to 50 millimeters compared to last year, officials are focusing on integrated water resource management to prevent dual crises involving both water shortages and potential flooding.
