Iranian Parliament Speaker Ghalibaf and FM Araghchi visit Oman to discuss Strait of Hormuz management

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Muscat on June 22‑23 for an official visit. They met Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, who welcomed the delegation and emphasized “constructive discussions” on the recent Iran‑US memorandum of understanding, particularly the paragraph on the Strait of Hormuz.

Both sides affirmed commitment to international law, safe, toll‑free passage and de‑escalation in the strategic waterway, which carries about one‑fifth of global oil exports. The talks built on high‑level negotiations held in Switzerland, mediated by Qatar and Pakistan, that produced a 60‑day roadmap toward a final peace agreement and mechanisms to ensure maritime security. The Iranian officials also discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation with Oman and the broader regional effort to reopen the strait after its closure following February hostilities between the United States, Israel and Iran.

The meeting underscored the importance of leveraging the current diplomatic momentum to support peace initiatives, safeguard regional stability and maintain the flow of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.
