Iranian detainee Ali Reza Sepahi suffers stroke, execution postponed

Ali Reza Sepahi, a 25‑year‑old inmate detained after the nationwide protests of December 2024 and sentenced to death in the “Ali Khani Square” case, was scheduled for execution in early August 2025 alongside co‑defendants. According to Iran‑based news agency Herana, he suffered a stroke just before the execution and was rushed to Al‑Zahra Hospital in Isfahan. After receiving medical treatment, Sepahi was returned to Dastgerd prison in Isfahan, delaying the planned execution.

Family members expressed heightened concern over his health and uncertain fate, noting that the medical episode has postponed the capital punishment that was to be carried out at dawn on the scheduled date. The case remains under scrutiny for alleged procedural shortcomings, including limited access to legal counsel and disputed evidence.
