Iranian Drone Attacks on Strait of Hormuz Vessels Prompt US Military Strikes

In the days following a U.S.–Iran memorandum of understanding, Iranian forces launched drone attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The Singapore‑flagged cargo ship M/V Ever Lovely was struck by an Iranian drone while transiting a route organized by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations along the Omani coast. Bahrain also reported multiple drone incursions targeting its territory.

The United States' Central Command responded by striking Iranian missile and drone storage sites, as well as coastal radar installations, describing the action as retaliation for the Ever Lovely attack. Iran accused the United States of violating the cease‑fire agreement. Meanwhile, Iran and Oman agreed to form a joint working group to discuss future administration of the strait, condemning unauthorized navigation routes as dangerous.

The incidents have heightened regional security concerns, with Iran warning that vessels using routes not approved by Tehran could face further attacks, while the United States emphasizes a limited, symbolic response.
