Iranian FM Saeed Abbas Araghchi warns UK not to support US attacks on Iran

Iranian Foreign Minister Saeed Abbas Araghchi told British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband that the United Kingdom should not cooperate with the United States in any military action against Iran. He said such cooperation, including under existing defence agreements, would be "unacceptable" under international law and condemned what he described as the UK’s "unjust and wrong" policies toward Iran, including the labeling of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a security threat.

Araghchi referenced the February joint US‑Israel strikes that killed senior Iranian officials and Iran’s subsequent missile and drone attacks on US and Israeli assets in the region. He noted that Iran had signed a memorandum of understanding with the United States in June to end hostilities, but claimed Washington had failed to honour its commitments. He also highlighted Iran’s effort, together with Oman, to establish an operational mechanism for managing ship traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, warning that third‑party interference would further complicate the situation.

Miliband responded that the UK is not involved in a war against Iran and stressed that diplomatic channels remain the preferred way to resolve disputes.
