Later on 1 August, Araghchi told regional counterparts, including Britain’s foreign minister Ed Miliband, that Tehran would respond forcefully to any further U.S. or Israeli aggression, describing the policy as an “eye‑for‑an‑eye” defence of its infrastructure. He warned that participation in strikes against Iran would bring legal and security consequences. U.S. officials signaled plans for new strikes within the week, and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced that the Strait of Hormuz was effectively closed to navigation except for vessels coordinated with Iranian forces. Shipping data showed a sharp reduction in traffic through Hormuz, while U.S. bases in the United Kingdom were reported to be supporting the planned operations.
