Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi Says Iran Will Manage Reopening of Strait of Hormuz in Iraq Talks
Iran’s foreign minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, visited Baghdad for high‑level meetings with Iraq’s national security adviser Qassem Al‑Aboudi and foreign minister Fuad Hussein. The delegations praised the deep‑rooted friendship between the two neighbours and discussed cooperation on security, counter‑terrorism, economics and the recent regional developments.
Araghchi thanked Iraq for its support following the U.S.–Israeli aggression against Iran and highlighted Iran’s responsibility for reopening the Strait of Hormuz under the recently signed U.S.–Iran memorandum of understanding. He urged all regional actors to respect the agreement and refrain from actions that could delay the strait’s restoration. The minister also announced arrangements for the late Iranian Supreme Leader’s funeral procession in Baghdad, Karbala, Najaf and other holy cities, noting the massive Iraqi public willingness to attend.
The talks reaffirmed the strategic partnership between Iran and Iraq and underscored Tehran’s readiness to coordinate security and economic matters, while emphasizing that the management of the Hormuz channel rests solely with Iran.
