Iranian gas supplies majority of Iraq's electricity
Iranian oil minister Mohsen Bakri Najad stated that most of Iraq's electricity generation now relies on gas exported from Iran. The supply is governed by two contracts signed in July 2017 for Baghdad and June 2018 for Basra, with gas transported through two dedicated pipelines.
During Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al‑Zaid's visit to Tehran, President Ebrahim Raisi received the delegation and the two countries signed four agreements and memoranda of understanding to deepen cooperation across political, economic, commercial, scientific, agricultural, industrial, security and infrastructure sectors.
The agreements reinforce Iran's role as a key energy partner for Iraq, ensuring continued gas deliveries and supporting the stability of Iraq's power sector.
