Iranian IRGC attacks US logistics at Oman’s Duqm port amid Strait of Hormuz tensions

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) carried out two drone strikes on U.S. military logistics and refueling facilities at Duqm port in Oman on March 1 and March 3, 2026. The first attack hit a workers’ housing unit, injuring an expatriate, while the second damaged a fuel storage tank; no further casualties were reported. These strikes constitute the third round of Iranian retaliation following U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian positions that began on February 28, 2026, and they target a strategically important fallback site for U.S. naval operations outside the Strait of Hormuz.

The attacks have heightened regional tensions. The United States responded with punitive airstrikes on targets in southern Iran and cancelled a waiver allowing Iranian oil exports. Iran, in turn, launched ballistic‑missile and drone attacks on U.S. installations in Bahrain and Kuwait. Analysts warn that the escalating confrontation threatens free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, could lift freight rates and insurance premiums, and may disrupt a portion of global oil supplies that transit the waterway. Gulf states, led by Qatar and Oman, are urged to broker a diplomatic solution that balances Iran’s desire for prestige with the need for unimpeded commercial shipping.
