Iranian missile and drone attacks on Kuwait trigger regional air‑defense response

On July 14‑15, 2026 Iran launched a wave of missiles and drones at Kuwait and other Gulf states, targeting U.S. military installations, including a Patriot air‑defence system. Kuwait’s armed forces reported interceptions of a ballistic missile, four cruise missiles and 33 drones, and said its air defences were actively engaging the attacks. Initial reports gave no casualty figures, but the Kuwaiti military later confirmed that four sailors on a naval vessel were injured and are in stable condition.

The attacks were described by Tehran as retaliation for recent U.S. strikes on Iranian sites and resulted in Iran closing the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial oil‑shipping lane. In response, the United States reinstated a naval blockade of Iran and warned of further regional escalation. Similar air‑defence alerts were activated in Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan, where some civilian injuries were reported from falling shrapnel. The heightened tensions threaten oil market stability and underscore the strategic vulnerability of Gulf states hosting U.S. forces.
