Iranian official Qalibaf pushes US‑Iran‑Lebanon dispute unit to end Lebanon war

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf called Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, stressing the urgency of convening a newly proposed “Dispute Control Unit” that would include Iran, the United States and Lebanon. The unit is intended to monitor and implement the first clause of the Islamabad Understanding between Iran and the United States, which calls for ending the war in Lebanon, restoring its sovereignty and allowing displaced persons to return.

Qalibaf said, “Our goal is to put an end to the war in Lebanon, return the displaced to their homes, and remove the Israeli occupation from Lebanese territory,” and urged that the unit meet as soon as possible. Both leaders linked the initiative to recent negotiations in Switzerland and warned that the Israeli side was attempting to circumvent the agreement.

The discussion highlights ongoing diplomatic efforts by Iran and the United States to influence Lebanon’s conflict dynamics through multilateral mechanisms.
