Baku hosts 20th ISIPAB summit; Turkish speaker Kurtulmuş meets regional leaders

The 20th session of the Islamic Cooperation Organization Parliament Union (ISIPAB) was held in Baku, marking Azerbaijan’s new chairmanship of the OIC parliamentary alliance. Azerbaijan’s growing diplomatic role was highlighted by President Ilham Aliyev’s remarks and the transfer of the OIC parliamentary chair from Indonesia to Azerbaijan.

Turkey’s Grand National Assembly speaker Numan Kurtulmuş attended the conference and held bilateral talks with several regional figures, including President Ilham Aliyev, Oman Shura Council head Khalid Hilal Al Maawali, and Iranian Parliament speaker Muhammad Bakır Ghalibaf. In these meetings he discussed the US‑Israel‑Iran conflict, the need for mediation in the Gulf, the Gaza situation, and reaffirmed Turkey’s guarantee of support for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

The summit also featured speeches by Iranian officials emphasizing Islamic world unity and reforms, and calls for a comprehensive reform process across Muslim nations. Overall, the event underscored Baku’s emergence as a centre of parliamentary diplomacy within the Muslim world and facilitated a series of high‑level regional diplomatic exchanges.
