Iranian pensioners and workers hold protests over livelihoods

Pensioners and workers across several Iranian cities held protests on Sunday to demand improvements to their livelihoods, healthcare, and wages. In Isfahan, steel industry retirees gathered near the governorate building to protest issues with Dana Supplementary Insurance. They reported significant financial strain due to gaps in insurance coverage and claimed the company has failed to pay approximately 120 billion tomans in medical invoices.

These steel industry retirees are also calling for the full implementation of wage adjustments to bring their pensions closer to the salaries of active workers. Meanwhile, Social Security retirees held demonstrations in Shush, Karokh, and Haft Tappeh, as well as in Tehran and Rasht. Their demands include increasing pensions to match inflation and the rising cost of living, ensuring the independence of the Social Security Organization from the government, and addressing the commodification of healthcare and education.

In Tabriz, municipal contract drivers also protested in front of the City Council, citing low wages and a lack of insurance benefits.
