Iranian pensioners hold protests in multiple cities

Pensioners in several Iranian cities held protests on Monday, continuing a trend of weekly demonstrations known as ‘protest Mondays.’ The gatherings primarily involved retirees from the telecommunications and steel sectors.

In Tabriz, telecommunications retirees gathered in front of company buildings to demand the full implementation of welfare regulations, payment of overdue claims, and improvements to supplementary insurance. Meanwhile, steel industry retirees held demonstrations in Isfahan, protesting against incomplete salary adjustments, inadequate healthcare, and the transfer of the steel pension fund to the national pension fund.

The core demands across these protests include increasing pensions to match inflation and the actual cost of living, settling unpaid arrears, ensuring free and high-quality medical care, and fulfilling legal obligations regarding pension funds. These recent actions follow widespread protests on Sunday that saw retirees from social security and the steel industry take to the streets in Tehran, Shush, Ahvaz, Rasht, Kermanshah, and Isfahan.
