Iran President Pezeshkian defends U.S. diplomatic memorandum
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has reaffirmed Iran's commitment to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the United States in June, aimed at ending hostilities. Pezeshkian stated that Iran remains open to diplomatic dialogue to protect its national interests but emphasized that Tehran will not be forced to surrender or abandon its defensive capabilities.
The President noted that while Iran intends to honor its obligations, it will only do so if the United States fulfills its own commitments under the agreement. He addressed recent tensions by claiming the U.S. has violated the pact and noted that the agreement's progress has stalled due to disagreements regarding maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.
Pezeshkian also highlighted full coordination between the Iranian government and its armed forces regarding the MoU. He denied rumors of internal leadership divisions and asserted that Iran has no intention of attacking neighboring countries, though he warned that Iran may retaliate against any attack launched from regional U.S. bases. Additionally, he accused Israel of seeking to prolong regional conflict and disrespecting the borders of Muslim nations.
