Iranian President Pezeshkian departs New York for Tehran

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has departed New York for Tehran following his participation in the 81st United Nations General Assembly. His departure concludes any immediate possibility of a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump during this trip.

In interviews with CBS and Fox News, Pezeshkian stated that Iran does not desire war and that the decision to end current conflicts rests with the United States. He emphasized that if disagreements can be resolved through dialogue, there is no need for further violence. Pezeshkian noted that while Iran seeks peace, it feels conflict has been imposed upon it due to Israeli provocations.

The President proposed that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz could be contingent on the U.S. accepting certain Iranian conditions, suggesting that an Islamabad MoU could serve as a framework for future discussions. He also expressed readiness to allow International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors access to Iranian nuclear facilities again. Pezeshkian maintained that Iran remains open to reaching an agreement within international legal frameworks, regardless of the timing of U.S. midterm elections.
