Iranian Revolutionary Court Sentences Four Protesters to Death in Ekbatan Case

Four individuals linked to the 2022 Ekbatan protests were sentenced to death by Tehran's Revolutionary Court, Branch 15, under Judge Abolghasem Salavati. They were convicted of "enmity against God" (moharebeh) for their alleged role in the killing of a Basij member during unrest in the Tehran suburb.

In the same proceeding, eight other defendants received five‑year prison terms for "assembly and collusion against national security" and related charges, along with bans on online activity and residency restrictions. The death sentences were communicated verbally to the accused without the presence of their lawyers, limiting immediate appeals. The case, originally split between the criminal and revolutionary courts, had seen earlier death sentences overturned by Iran’s Supreme Court in 2025 before being re‑examined.
