US‑Iran war casualties rise to 17 as Iran strikes US bases in Jordan

The ongoing US‑Iran conflict entered a new escalation in July 2026. Seventeen U.S. service members have now been killed and more than 400 wounded since the war began in February. The Pentagon disclosed only the latest strike, while earlier attacks were not announced. In response, the United States has conducted retaliatory airstrikes against Iranian targets. Democratic lawmakers in the U.S. Congress have demanded an immediate end to the war, blocking a defense policy bill in protest of the renewed hostilities.
