Iranian rial gap widens as dollar hits record high

The free‑market dollar in Iran rose to 192,000 rials per US dollar while the remittance (official) rate stood at 152,000 rials, expanding the gap between the two rates by about 26 percent. Historically the difference has fluctuated between 3 percent and 82 percent, with an average of 33 percent.

On the same day the dollar briefly touched 194,200 rials, approaching 195,000 rials, marking an 11 percent rise over the past month and a 115 percent increase over the last year, effectively halving the value of the Iranian rial. The euro traded above 242,000 rials, while global gold prices fell 1.4 percent. Domestic gold coins rose 0.35 percent, trading above 184 million rials. Tehran’s stock‑exchange index fell by 19,000 points, leaving the total market value near the five‑million‑point floor.
