Iranian student Najmeh Amini sentenced to death

Najmeh Amini, a 23-year-old Iranian accounting student, has been sentenced to death by a Revolutionary Court. According to human rights organizations, the sentence was announced on September 16 following her involvement in anti-government protests in January.

Amini faces charges including “conspiracy and complicity,” “insulting sacred persons and imams,” and “enmity against God.” She was originally arrested on February 2 after reportedly being assaulted following Instagram posts related to the protests. She has been held at Vakilaband Prison in Mazandaran without access to legal counsel, according to human rights monitors.

In a recorded audio message from prison, Amini appealed to the international community and her fellow citizens to “be my voice.” She stated that she does not seek to be a hero but is asking for justice and for her case to be reviewed before her execution. She described herself as an innocent young woman with dreams and expressed the fear her family lives with daily.
