Iranian workers protest wages and safety amid rising fatalities
Labor unrest and safety concerns have escalated across several Iranian cities. In Karaj, workers at the Darnavand company protested against poor working conditions, low wages, inadequate food quality, and irregular working hours. They also reported the dismissal of employees for minor delays and alleged that a Balochi worker was assaulted by a security guard.
In Arak, approximately 300 Hepco workers staged a demonstration demanding the payment of overdue September wages, the signing of formal employment contracts, and the appointment of competent industrial management.
Simultaneously, workplace accidents have resulted in multiple fatalities. Reports indicate that workers died during accidents in Mashhad, Damavand, and Urmia, including a fall from height and a well-related incident. In Gonbad-e Kavus, two seasonal workers went missing following heavy rainfall and the flooding of the Atrek River. Data from human rights activists suggests a high rate of injury and death among Iranian workers due to lack of job security and safety protocols.
