Iran's Assembly of Experts condemns US‑Iran deal and opposes reopening of Strait of Hormuz
A group of members of Iran's Assembly of Experts issued a 10‑point statement signed by 66 of the 88‑member body, calling the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz a “strategic error” that violates the terms of a recently approved agreement with the United States. The statement demands that the management of the strait be stabilized, compensation for damages be secured, blocked assets be returned, sanctions be lifted and the United States withdraw from the region. It also reiterates that Iran’s nuclear rights must remain outside any negotiation and condemns any breach of the agreement.
The declaration labels former U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as “murderers” and calls for their punishment, urging that any negligence in the implementation of the agreement be met with a “response from the nation.” The statement reflects deepening internal disagreement over the deal, which was reportedly approved by more than 90 % of the Supreme National Security Council. It also references Israeli actions in Lebanon as a breach of the first clause of the agreement.
