Iran's Ghalibaf lauds US MoU as win for Axis of Resistance

Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf met Mohammed Al‑Nuaimi, vice‑chairman of the Houthi Supreme Political Council, in Tehran on the sidelines of the funeral ceremonies for the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Ghalibaf hailed the recently signed Iran‑US Memorandum of Understanding, saying, “The US and Israel were forced to practically recognise Iran’s allies in the Axis of Resistance under the recent memorandum,” and called the deal a “defeat for the US” and an “achievement for the Resistance Front” militarily and politically. He praised the Houthis and stressed the need for unity among Islamic countries against US and Israeli influence.

President Masoud Pezeshkian, speaking at the same funeral events, rejected the notion of a farewell, stating, “This is not a farewell, but rather a pledge to continue the path.” Millions of mourners gathered at Tehran’s Grand Mosalla and in cities across Iraq to view the coffins of Khamenei and his family. The Axis of Resistance, a loose Iran‑centred network that includes Hezbollah, Houthi forces and various militia groups, was highlighted as a growing political bloc opposing Western and Israeli regional interests.
