Iran launches Operation Nasr 2, hits US bases and Gulf oil tankers
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced Operation Nasr 2, a multi‑stage retaliation after a U.S. five‑hour air campaign against Iranian coastal sites. The IRGC said it struck U.S. military facilities in Bahrain – including the Sheikh Isa air base, Juffair and Al Jufair naval base – using missiles and drones, and also targeted U.S. installations in Jordan, Kuwait and Bahrain. Iran claimed to have destroyed missile depots, fuel stores, Patriot air‑defence systems and a satellite‑communications centre.
In parallel, Iranian forces fired cruise missiles at two UAE‑flagged oil tankers, Mombasa and Bahia, in the Strait of Hormuz, igniting fires. One Indian crew member was killed and eight others, including four Indians and two Ukrainians, were injured. Jordan’s air‑defence system intercepted four ballistic missiles Iran launched toward a U.S. air base in Jordan.
The United States has not independently verified the damage to the Gulf facilities, and Iran’s claims of complete destruction remain uncorroborated. The escalation raises the risk of further disruption to the Strait of Hormuz, a chokepoint for roughly 20 % of global oil and gas shipments.
