Iran's Ministry of Intelligence arrests 30 suspects in Central Province unrest

The Iranian Ministry of Intelligence announced the identification and arrest of 30 key leaders and associates involved in the destruction of public and private property in the Central Province. These individuals are linked to the unrest that occurred in January 2026 (Dey 1404) in the towns of Mahallat and Nimvar.

According to the ministry, the suspects were involved in widespread arson and looting, targeting residential homes, large retail stores, banks, emergency vehicles, and government buildings. The attacks also included the burning of several mosques, such as the Jameh Olia Mosque and the Mahdiyeh Mosque in the Mahallat market, as well as attacks on the railway network that endangered passengers.

Authorities reported seizing various items from the detainees, including cold weapons like axes and knives, as well as alcohol and narcotics. This follows a previous operation in February 2026 (Bahman 1404), during which 70 field agents related to the January events were also detained. The Ministry of Intelligence stated that these crimes will not be subject to statutes of limitations.
