Iranian security operations against unrest and sabotage
Overview
The Iranian Ministry of Intelligence has conducted several operations targeting domestic unrest and organized sabotage. In late August, authorities announced the arrest of 30 individuals linked to unrest in the Central Province during January 2026. These suspects were allegedly involved in the destruction of public and private property, including arson against residential homes, banks, government buildings, and mosques, as well as attacks on the railway network.
By late September, security operations expanded to address what the ministry described as the dismantling of three operational cells across West Azerbaijan, Alborz, and Kerman provinces. These activities included a confrontation in Piranshahr involving a separatist operative, the arrest of an individual in Alborz accused of providing military coordinates to foreign intelligence, and the detention of a cell in Bam tasked with exploding critical infrastructure.
