Iran's Pezeshkian defends U.S. negotiations as strategic, not surrender

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has stated that engaging in negotiations with the United States does not constitute surrender. Speaking at a forum in Tehran, Pezeshkian emphasized that while Iran will defend its territorial integrity against external attacks, the nation does not view war as an objective. He noted that Iran intends to approach diplomacy with wisdom and honor, aiming to lift blockades and free blocked resources.

Pezeshkian cited the Chinese model of economic competition as a strategic example for navigating international relations. He expressed a desire to move toward nuclear negotiations following the resolution of immediate tensions.

Former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami has voiced support for the current administration's diplomatic efforts. Khatami described the 'Islamabad Memorandum'—a 14-point agreement reportedly signed digitally on June 18 by Pezeshkian and U.S. President Donald Trump—as a unique and significant opportunity for the country. The memorandum, mediated by Pakistan, includes provisions to end conflicts in Lebanon, open the Strait of Hormuz, and lift the U.S. maritime blockade against Iran.
