Iran's Pezeshkian seeks diplomatic deal to end 'neither war nor peace' state

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has stated that "now is the best time" to reach a diplomatic agreement to exit the current state of "neither war nor peace." Speaking to Iranian media, Pezeshkian emphasized the need for a communication channel with the United States to address ceasefire violations and prevent further military confrontation. He noted that discussions regarding these issues are currently being processed within the framework of negotiations in Oman.

Simultaneously, tensions remain high regarding navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. While Oman has described talks regarding the Strait as "positive and constructive," Tehran has set six non-negotiable conditions for its opening, including the removal of sanctions, the withdrawal of U.S. forces, and the payment of reparations. Iranian official Mohammad Bagher Zolganahr stated the Strait will remain closed until U.S. policy toward Iran changes.

In the United States, Vice President JD Vance stated that the U.S. is evaluating whether Iran is willing to make the long-term changes necessary to improve bilateral relations. Vance maintained that the U.S. will continue to apply pressure to achieve its objectives, noting that the administration has significantly reduced Iran's conventional and asymmetric military capabilities.
