Iran's Pezeshkian proposes security pact and unity for Muslim nations
At the 40th International Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called for increased cooperation and unity among Muslim nations to ensure regional stability. He proposed three key initiatives: the establishment of a mutual security and non-aggression pact, the creation of a permanent mechanism for mediation and conflict prevention through the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the transformation of the Muslim world into a network of economic, scientific, and technological cooperation.
Pezeshkian emphasized that no Islamic country should seek its own security by compromising the security of its neighbors, and that no Islamic territory should be used as a platform for aggression against another. He noted that intra-Islamic trade currently remains below 19 percent, highlighting a need for greater economic integration. He also suggested that increased unity could facilitate the withdrawal of US forces from the region.
During a separate meeting, Faiq Zidan, President of Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council, praised Iran’s role in combating terrorism and expressed Iraq’s readiness to deepen economic and security ties with Tehran. Additionally, Pezeshkian met with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, discussing the need for diplomacy to resolve regional tensions and condemning US and Israeli actions as contrary to international law.
