Iran's UN representative accuses US and Israel of illegal war
Gholamhossein Darzi, Iran's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, addressed the UN Security Council regarding conflict and food security. Darzi accused the United States and Israel of launching an illegal aggressive war against Iran on February 28, 2026. He stated that these military actions led to the assassination of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, several senior officials, and more than 3,400 civilians.
Darzi linked regional instability and maritime disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz directly to the military actions of the US and Israel. He cited a report from US Central Command (CENTCOM) stating that US forces diverted 59 commercial vessels, disabled three, and boarded two vessels. Furthermore, he condemned the ‘economic exclusion’ operation announced by the US Treasury Secretary on August 24, 2026, as an attempt to impose an economic blockade on the Iranian people.
Regarding the situation in Gaza, Darzi accused Israel of committing gross violations of international humanitarian law, including the deliberate targeting of civilians and the use of starvation as a weapon. He criticized the UN Security Council for failing to fulfill its responsibilities due to political support and obstruction by the United States.
