Iran‑US agreement places Strait of Hormuz under Iranian control and vows regional security
Iranian chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf told a conference in Baku that the recently brokered understanding between Tehran and Washington – mediated by Pakistan – represents “the American announcement of defeat” and stems from the “resistance of the Iranian people”. He stressed that the deal will keep the strategic Hormuz waterway under Tehran’s administration and that the reopening of the strait follows the establishment of communication lines between the two sides.
Ghalibaf also said the agreement includes a temporary suspension of U.S. sanctions on Iranian oil, a possible easing of broader sanctions, and the release of frozen assets. He linked these steps to a broader regional peace effort, noting that a cease‑fire in Lebanon is a prerequisite for a final settlement with the United States.
