Iran's IRGC warns Britain of becoming legitimate target if it supports US
Brigadier General Hossein Mohebi, spokesperson for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), warned that the United Kingdom would become a “definite and legitimate target” if it backs United States operations against Tehran. He said U.S. B‑1 bombers have recently used British airfields and that any British cooperation would invoke Iranian retaliation. Mohebi extended the warning to Gulf Arab states and Israel, stating that any country supporting the United States would also be a legitimate target.
The United Kingdom’s Defence Secretary Wes Streeting responded, saying the UK will not join offensive U.S. military action in Iran and should not be intimidated by Iran’s “sabre‑rattling”. He reiterated that Britain has allowed U.S. defensive use of bases such as RAF Fairford and Diego García, but will lead a naval mission to clear mines from the Strait of Hormuz when conditions permit. Iran condemned the use of British bases as a breach of the UN Charter and international law, and announced it had suspended its “revenge attacks” after the United States paused its strikes.
