Irapuato battles heavy rains and power cuts disrupting drainage and traffic signals

Intense rainstorms have caused flooding in Irapuato, overwhelming older drainage collectors and flooding homes in the Purísima del Jardín neighborhood. The city's civil protection unit monitors rainfall with a sentinel station and deploys a “Grupo Tormenta” of water authority, civil protection, traffic and police personnel to address localized inundations. Municipal officials say the aging concrete sewers are prone to damage and are being inspected and repaired where possible.

The city has also been dealing with frequent electricity interruptions from the federal utility CFE for about two years, which have left traffic lights across Irapuato non‑functional. The mobility director reports faults ranging from broken cables to defective control cards, and the municipal government is in continuous contact with CFE to resolve the outages.
