Irapuato faces flooding and road damage after heavy storms

Severe storms in Irapuato have caused significant flooding and infrastructure damage, with rainfall intensity reaching a peak of 384 mm/h in the northern zone. The Junta de Agua Potable y Alcantarillado de Irapuato (Japami) identified 16 critical points and alert levels across several neighborhoods, including Los Encinos, La Gavia, and Villas de Irapuato.

Residents in affected areas reported water entering homes and streets turning into rivers due to the force of the runoff. In response to the damage, the municipal Director of Public Services, Rogelio Pérez Espinoza, announced that pothole repair crews are working on primary, secondary, and internal streets. To address the increased volume of requests following the rains, crews are working extra shifts on Saturdays using hot material for immediate application.

While Japami deployed its 'Grupo Tormenta' to monitor 86 control points, the intensity of the storm has highlighted ongoing structural issues in certain neighborhoods that residents claim remain unresolved.
