Irapuato families demand justice for 9‑year‑old Alejandro killed in armed attack
Families in Irapuato, Guanajuato, marched on June 6 demanding justice for Alejandro, a nine‑year‑old known as "Winnie," who was killed when gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire in the Las Huertas neighbourhood. The attackers targeted a 26‑year‑old man, but bullets also struck Alejandro, who died at the scene, and a girl of the same age, who was injured.
Protesters carried white shirts, candles and signs reading “Justice for Alejandro” and “With children, no,” calling on municipal authorities and the state prosecutor’s office to arrest the suspects, identified locally as "El Tuta." The demonstration follows a spike in child victims of armed attacks in Irapuato, with 16 minors harmed in the first five months of 2026—five deaths and 11 injuries—an increase of nearly 200 % compared with the same period in 2025.
