Irapuato government expands community health and welfare programs

The municipal government of Irapuato, led by President Lorena Alfaro García, is implementing an integral model of ‘Healthy Communities’ to provide medical, nutritional, and social services to rural and urban families.

Through the ‘Salud con Paso Firme’ strategy, the administration has expanded access to free medical services. A key component is the clinic at the Centro Social 18 de Agosto, which serves over 13,000 affiliates with general medicine, dentistry, ophthalmology, laboratory studies, and free medication.

In terms of food security, the Municipal DIF and the Food Warehouse have delivered over 5.9 million rations to more than 30,000 people. Additionally, 61 community dining rooms have distributed over 2.8 million balanced meals. To support family economies, a subsidized dairy program in the Morelos neighborhood, coordinated with the Congregación Mariana Trinitaria, provides milk at up to a 50 percent discount to over 2,000 families.
