Irapuato implements infrastructure plans to mitigate flooding

Authorities in Irapuato, Mexico, are implementing measures to address infrastructure vulnerabilities caused by heavy rainfall. Ricardo Holguín Santana, director of JAPAMI, announced a master plan to address 86 critical flooding points. Priority investments include constructing a four-kilometer collector in the Purísima del Jardín area, expanding a pumping chamber, and installing grates to improve water capture.

Additional projects involve developing new collectors, pumping stations, and systems in the ejidos and phase four sectors. One planned collector aims to transport up to 7,000 liters per second to the Guanajuato River. Preventive cleaning of channels and riverbeds is also underway.

Separately, recent rains have exposed structural issues at the Mercado Hidalgo. Rogelio Pérez Espinoza, director of Public Services, reported that the market's aging roof has caused leaks and drainage problems due to insufficient gutters. The municipality is coordinating maintenance to repair damaged tiles and expand gutter capacity while working toward a long-term structural renovation project.
