Irapuato invests 1.779 billion pesos in water and strengthens finances

The municipality of Irapuato has implemented significant investments and financial reforms under the administration of Mayor Lorena Alfaro García. The local government has allocated over 1.779 billion pesos toward water infrastructure, encompassing 345 projects related to potable water, drainage, and sanitation. Key initiatives include the rehabilitation of wells, the construction of a 462 million peso treatment plant at the Pueblo Nuevo exit, and the modernization of water management through the IAGUA center, which utilizes telemetry and smart meters to monitor networks in real time.

Parallel to infrastructure developments, Irapuato has strengthened its fiscal position. Fitch Ratings has affirmed the municipality with its highest long-term national rating and raised its individual credit profile. The administration also achieved 100 percent compliance with the Accounting Harmonization Evaluation System (SEvAC) in 2026. These financial practices earned the municipality the 2026 National Award for Good Municipal Government in the ‘Strong Local Treasuries’ category and recognition from the Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público for budgetary transparency.
