Irapuato Mayor Launches Japanese Green‑Park Project as Citizens Plan Protest
The municipal government of Irapuato, Guanajuato, presented a new environmental initiative to Japanese business representatives, outlining a "Sistema de Parques" that will link neighborhood parks, protected natural areas, and a linear river corridor. Mayor Lorena Alfaro García announced the creation of a Japanese garden in the renovated Ecological Park and the first phase of the Silao River Linear Park, aiming to improve recreation, mobility, and ecological restoration.
At the same time, the city’s social movement organization confirmed it will hold a protest on July 15 outside the municipal palace, citing grievances over public security, infrastructure, water fees and drainage. Mayor Alfaro García said the municipal administration will not respond directly to the demonstration and urged residents to use existing open‑door "Miércoles Ciudadano" sessions instead of intermediaries. The protest follows a May 20 clash that resulted in property damage and police closure of the palace entrance.
