Irapuato Hospital Project Stalled by IMSS and Treasury Funding Delays

Federal deputy Diego Rodríguez Barroso (PAN) accused the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) and the Treasury (SHCP) of maintaining a bureaucratic “carnival” that blocks the release of funds for a new IMSS hospital in Irapuato. Although the project – a 216‑bed facility with 36 consultorios and six operating rooms intended to serve more than 440,000 beneficiaries – has already been approved, the deputy says IMSS can take up to two months to release documents and the Treasury and IMSS blame each other for the slowdown.

Rodríguez Barroso appealed directly to the Presidency of the Republic for intervention. The presidential office responded that the file was sent back to IMSS and the Treasury for follow‑up, but he claims this does not constitute real progress. The stalled funding leaves the hospital construction halted despite its approved status.
