Mexico reports shooting fatality, drug convictions and police raids
A gun attack in the 8 de Junio neighbourhood of Irapuato, Guanajuato, left 51‑year‑old Francisco dead and 21‑year‑old Victor injured while they were repairing a vehicle. Suspects fled on a motorcycle and the case is being investigated by the state homicide unit.
State government secretary Jorge Jiménez Lona reaffirmed his support for the missing‑persons collective “Una Luz en Mi Camino” after activist Norma Patricia Barrón complained that prosecutors’ agents abandoned search work. The group will resume searches at three sites on the Irapuato‑Salamanca border.
In Sonora, a driver identified as Agustín N. was sentenced to eight years and four months in prison after federal police stopped his tractor‑trailer on Highway 15 and seized 20 bags containing eight kilograms of methamphetamine.
In Morelia, Michoacán, the state prosecutor carried out two raids that resulted in the seizure of more than 1,700 doses of methamphetamine, several grams of marijuana and related evidence, and the arrest of three men.
