Irapuato unveils Master Plan to create citywide park network

The municipal government of Irapuato, led by President Lorena Alfaro García, announced a Master Plan for a System of Parks that will link public spaces, natural reserves and ecological corridors across the city. The strategy aims to place a dignified natural area within ten minutes of every household.

Key projects include the Linear Park along the Silao River, the Train‑Station Park, new green corridors following the Guanajuato River, and the development of the Cerro del Piloncillo area. The plan also calls for expanding the Megaparque DIF, creating a Park of Knowledge in the north, and upgrading existing sites such as the Parque Liebres and the Parque CFE. Rural zones will receive new reserves on hills such as Cerro de Arandas and Cerro del Veinte.

Implementation will rely on three main pillars – an active‑mobility network, green‑infrastructure axes, and urban‑rural connectors – to integrate parks, bike paths, trails and roads into a continuous, accessible system for recreation and community life.
