Iraq anti-corruption raid uncovers billions of dinars hidden in drainage
Iraqi anti‑corruption investigators have seized 14 billion Iraqi dinars (over $193 million) concealed in a drainage trench, adding to a total of more than 127 billion dinars and $24 million seized in the ongoing probe. The cash is linked to former oil ministry deputy minister Adnan Cumeyli, arrested over alleged refinery tender fraud, and to former vice minister for oil processing Adnan al‑Jumaili, who was dismissed and later detained. The High Judicial Council said the money was likely obtained through misappropriation of public‑project funds.
The operation has also led to the seizure of luxury cars, jewellery and other assets, and investigations have identified dozens of officials and parliamentarians potentially involved in the scheme. Authorities say the crackdown aims to recover public losses and hold all participants accountable.
