Iran's rial slides as dollar nears 200,000, fueling broader price hikes

The Iranian rial continued to weaken in late July, with the official dollar rate reaching 1,414,300 rials and the open market price hovering between 1.92 and 1.95 million rials per dollar. Analysts note the dollar has lingered around 190‑200 thousand rials, driven by regional tensions, rising liquidity and inflation pressures.

Domestic prices rose sharply: Iran Khodro car models posted market prices from 1.58 billion to 5.99 billion rials, while the gold “Bahār‑Āzādī” coin was quoted at 185.2 million rials. Brent crude broke the $100‑per‑barrel barrier, closing above $101 amid concerns over Red Sea shipping disruptions and broader Middle‑East instability.

Currency tables for the day also listed the euro at 1,610,084 rials, the pound at 1,886,895 rials and a range of other foreign rates. The combined effect of a weaker rial, higher car and gold coin prices, and rising oil costs signals mounting economic strain for Iranian households and businesses.
