Iraq intensifies security crackdown on drone networks and illegal armed groups

Iraqi security forces have launched a major crackdown on unauthorized drone networks and illegal armed groups. Authorities reported the dismantling of a network planning drone attacks against unspecified targets, resulting in several arrests and the seizure of equipment.

In a broader security operation, the Ministry of Interior seized 49 drones and closed 71 locations that were falsely claiming affiliation with the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF). Additionally, 119 weapons shops were shut down, including those with expired licenses.

Major General Miqdad Miri stated that unauthorized drone activity could be prosecuted under anti-terrorism laws. The government is also working toward a national weapons database, which currently tracks approximately 6 million weapons, as part of a long-term effort to bring all armed activity under state control by 2030.
