Iraq PM Ali Faleh al-Zaidi pledges to achieve drug-free nation

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi conducted a field visit to the General Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances under the Ministry of Interior to review anti-drug operations. During the visit, al-Zaidi emphasized that Iraq is engaged in a war against both corruption and narcotics, stating that the ultimate goal is to achieve a drug-free nation.

Al-Zaidi reviewed the directorate’s permanent exhibition, which details various types of drugs, smuggling routes, and methods for treating addicts. He also visited a memorial for personnel killed during operations against drug traffickers.

Following a meeting with senior officials, the Prime Minister noted that Iraq has made significant progress and is becoming a regional leader in preventing its territory from being used as a transit point for smuggling. To ensure sustained progress, al-Zaidi ordered the formation of a multi-agency committee to monitor the narcotics file, which will be required to submit monthly reports documenting achievements, seizures, and destruction of illegal substances.
