Iraq PM Ali Zaydi backs Dawn Raid anti‑corruption drive

Prime Minister Ali Zaydi has reaffirmed Iraq's anti‑corruption campaign, known as the "Dawn Raid," insisting it will continue without political compromise. Launched on 28 June, the operation, coordinated with Supreme Judicial Council head Faik Zidan, has recovered assets exceeding 141 billion Iraqi dinars (about $108 million), including gold, real estate and hidden commercial holdings.

Around 50 senior officials, ministers and parliamentarians have been detained, with parliamentary immunity lifted for many after confessions, notably from deputy oil minister Adnan Al‑Jamili. While the campaign has faced a slowdown in arrest orders due to a weapons‑seizure file and regional security tensions—including recent US and Saudi strikes on Popular Mobilisation Force sites—Zaydi says the investigations remain active and daily uncover further involvement of high‑level figures.

Public sentiment remains supportive, with activists calling for transparent trials and the restoration of state funds. The government stresses that the drive is a legal, evidence‑based effort rather than a political retaliation.
