Iraq posts $63 billion Q4 GDP as reforms steer toward a digital economy

Iraq’s gross domestic product reached roughly $63 billion in the fourth quarter of 2025, with non‑oil output accounting for about $41.5 billion. The state budget recorded an 8.9‑trillion‑dinar deficit and the official exchange rate steadied at 1,300 dinars per US dollar. Banking credit extended hit 75.6 trillion dinars, while the Iraq Stock Exchange saw modest trading volumes. A trade surplus of $4 billion was reported despite falling merchandise exports, and the power grid imported 295,609 megawatt‑hours to cover domestic shortfalls.

Parallel to these macro‑economic figures, the Iraqi government is accelerating a shift to a cash‑less society, encouraging electronic wallets and digital payment systems. The upcoming visit of the Iraqi prime minister to Washington is framed as an economic summit, underscoring Iraq’s intent to attract foreign investment and strengthen ties with the United States and Turkey, positioning the country as a regional trade hub.
